諫山さんの執筆スタイルを追ってみると、かなり興味深いものがある。
ノルマは月刊別冊マガジン用の４５枚 だ。 要は月に１回４５ページ描くことになる。
最初の１０日間は講談社の自習室みたいなところに入り浸って原作を練る。ネームと呼ばれるコマ割りもこの時点でやる。
１０日後に出来た原作ストーリーとコマ割りと簡単な人物の位置などを記した原稿を川窪編集者に見てもらい、ここで協議。
川窪さんが、ここはわかりにくいとか、読者目線でダメだしが出る。
諫山さんが、「なるほど」と思ったときはその場で修正する。 どうしても作者が譲りたくないとなれば、ここは作者の方針を川窪編集者も採用する。
こんな感じでまさに二人三脚で作品に命を吹き込んでいく。
これでOKになると、今度は川窪さんが編集会議でこの原案をプレゼンして、OKが出て初めて次のステップにイケル。 上からの圧力を、「彼は他の人みたいなひとまねが一切ない、だから最初は違和感があるかも知れない、でもそれは些細なこと、必ず読者はつく」で振り切る。
次のステップは 、そう、自宅で絵を入れていくこと。
これに１８日ほど。これでまた川窪さんのチェックが入りその後、編集会議へ・・。書き直しになることもある。ホントに時間との戦いだ。
この「進撃の巨人」も最初から今の勢いがあったわけではない。 徐々にあがってきた。 諫山さんは喰っていけるだけでもう十分という、野心のない人だ。
しかし今や、単行本が初版で２００万冊、これまでに十億円モノ印税収入があるのに、未だにインスタントラーメンというのがなんともいいよ。
川窪さんんもいまでは講談社の若手筆頭のエースだ。
オイラがこの、今尚、進行中の二人の物語に愛着をもつのは、これは単なる「成功物語」ってわけではないからなんだ。
出会ったことがないような エネルギーを感じる。

その声を聞ける柔軟さを失ったら、オイラの道は全部最終的に、ぼやけて消えていくのではないのだろうか。
